Teaching Tip: Distractions! Distractions!

Skill Level: lower intermediate and up

Skills: Listening Comprehension/Question Structures

Choose a student whose command of English is a bit higher than the rest of the students', and have him/her to sit at the front of the class, facing the group.

Give the student a piece of paper with a simple task printed on it (a math problem, text-copying, etc.)

Instruct the class to keep the student from even starting the task by continuing to ask questions. The student selected is obligated to answer each question before continuing with the task.

Questions and answers have to be grammatically correct. The teacher can act as the referee. The time the student takes to complete the task will be the time to beat by the next student.
